Lockerly Arboretum as a PR client

During my PR Writing class this semester (Fall 2010), we were assigned to take on a non-profit client during the semester and I was lucky enough to take on Lockerly Arboretum as my client. The staff there is absolutely amazing and the overall experience of being able to publish work for them and contribute to their public relations was truly rewarding. At the beginning of this assignment, I knew that there was going to be a lot of work put into this, but the results I got out of it have helped prepared me for my future in public relations and especially for my first internship that I will hopefully be getting this coming summer.

Here are a few of my press releases that got published in the Union Recorder about Lockerly's featured events:

Survivors in Pink event=Success!!

When I walked through the doors of Magnolia ballroom and saw how my event was laid out so beautifully I stepped back for a second and realized that all my hard work had definitely paid off. In a way, I was shocked that all that seats had been filled, but I learned that by doing RSVP's and taking the extra hour or two to reach people over the telephone truly helped. I am so thankful for the people who helped Leslie and I put on this event, I could not have done it without them. This is my first event planned from beginning to end and I am exquisite as to how it turned out. It not only made me realize how much people appreciated my effort, but also that event planning really is my thing and I can't wait to continue with it in my future .Here are a few pictures!

Breast cancer bingo fundraiser

Success!!!! Thanks to the American Legion and the members of "Breast Friends," we raised $500 to go towards the event of Survivors in Pink and the Faith, Love, and Hope group!! We had a good crowd show up to bingo night in their fabulous pink clothing and everyone seemed to have a blast (especially the ones who won the games and the jackpot.) Survivors in Pink is coming up on Thursday and I am have been quite anxious and excited for not only the event, but my mom coming to Milledgeville as well as my lovely aunts. Again, I am so thankful to the people who have donated to this event and the fantastic giveaways we have received, such as a pedicure, facial, earrings, gift cards, Mary Kay basket, World of Coke tickets, Outback Steakhouse gift certificates, pink watches, Susan G. Komen giveaways, and much more!

Links for a cure fundraiser

As one of our fundraisers for the event "Survivors in Pink," we have sold several paper chain links that people can write either a name of someone who has survived breast cancer or who has passed away. It is a great success so far and I am so thankful to have so many people contribute. All of the money collected will be going towards the event and breast cancer research for the "Faith, Love, and Hope," a cancer survivor group in Milledgeville, reaching towards a cure and helping cancer patients afford medicine.

Practicum event moving right along-"Survivors in Pink"

My first practicum event is probably one of the best practicums and one of the best experiences in college so far. I am working on this practicum with my lovely roommate, Leslie Spamer, and also with Kendall Stiles who works in the GIVE Center. Along with these two spectacular ladies, there are several volunteers that are willing to help me out and every single one of them is fantastic! This is my first event and by the end, I will have learned so much and gained a lot of experience.  I am planning an event in honor of breast cancer survivors around the area of Milledgeville. The event will be called "Survivors in Pink." I am SUPER excited about it and we are all working extremely hard on this to make it the perfect night for these survivors. I will be updating more about it soon and will eventually follow up with pictures!
